Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is a Physiotherapist? In order to practice as a physiotherapist, all physiotherapists must complete a 4 year full time university degree. On completion of this, all physiotherapists must register with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). AHPRA provides legislation and laws that govern the practice of physiotherapy to ensure public safety. Further information is available at the Australian Physiotherapy Association Website and AHPRA.
-
Do I need a Referral? You may see a physiotherapist at any time without first consulting your doctor. If your problem is to be covered by Workers Compensation, CTP/Green Slip or Medicare you must first get a referral from your doctor.
-
Do I need to make an Appointment?YES. Lifestyle & Sports Physiotherapy operates on an appointment only basis to ensure adequate time and service provision can be provided to all clients equally.
-
How Long is my Appointment? All initial appointments for new clients, and new injuries at Lifestyle & Sports Physiotherapy are a minimum of 45 minutes. All subsequent appointments are a minimum of half an hour. Complex conditions and exercise programs may require longer appointments to ensure an appropriate level of assessment, advice and treatment can be completed. Our reception staff will advise you when booking an appointment.
-
Can I Claim Physiotherapy Through my Health Fund?YES if you are covered for ancillary services with your health fund. The rebate varies depending on your health fund and level of cover. Lifestyle & Sports Physiotherapy has the HICAPs and TYRO Healthpoint systems that allow immediate processing of your health fund claim. Bring your membership card and you will only need to pay the difference on the day of consultation. EFTPOS is available for all gap payments.
-
Is Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology or Dietitian Covered by Medicare?"Medicare will refund $52.95 for up to 5 services per calendar year under the Chronic Disease Management (CDM) initiative (formerly Enhance Primary Care). This is available to people with complex and long-standing health conditions and MUST be referred by your GP under an Primary Care Plan. Not all people can qualify for such a plan. To fulfil medicare requirements, you must bring your doctors referral and corresponding 'care plan'. Consultation Fees must be paid in full up front, and then claimed back personally via medicare.
-
Workers Compensation or Third Party : What Information do I Need ?To allow us to bill the relevant insurer, we require a referral from your nominated treating doctor, a 'certificate of capacity' (workers compensation only), insurance company details and your claim number. Details of your claims manager (name, address and phone number) can be very helpful.
-
How Many Areas Can Be Treated in an Appointment? To ensure an appropriate level of assessment and treatment, we recommend dealing with one area/injury per consultation. In some cases, two areas of the body maybe linked and therefore assessment and treatment will address both areas. Two unrelated areas eg. right shoulder and left ankle are best managed via a long/two area consultation that will last at least one hour. Please speak to our friendly reception team if you are uncertain regarding this.
-
What to Wear?Physiotherapists use a range of physical tests to try and diagnose your condition. Treatment may involve manual therapy (massage, mobilisation, manipulation). Therefore try to wear appropriate clothing to move freely, allow visual inspection and easy ‘hands-on’ access to your involved body part. Lifestyle & Sports Physiotherapy will provide a hospital gown, towel and shorts for modesty as required.
-
